Professor Marja-Riitta Taskinen, University of Helsinki, Finland
Marja-Riitta Taskinen is Professor of Medicine at the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, University of Helsinki. She is a recognized expert in the field of dyslipidemias and their role as CVD risk factors. Her research interest has been lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, and her long series of original and important observations have contributed significantly to the understanding of lipoprotein abnormalities and genetics of dyslipidemias, pathophysiology of Type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome. Professor Taskinen’s studies provide new insight into driving forces for diabetic dyslipidemia and have established the link between liver fat and VLDL overproduction underlying the atherogenic lipid triad in diabetes.
