Young Investigator

Dr. Frederick Brancati, Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology, & Clinical Research, Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore, USA
Dr. Brancati is Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins, Division Chief of General Internal Medicine, and Director of the Prevention and Control Core of a newly funded Hopkins-UMD Diabetes Research and Training Center. He is an internationally recognized expert in the epidemiology and prevention of type 2 diabetes, with particular emphasis on idabetes in minorities and the elderly and on effectiveness trials. He is currently an investigator in the Look AHEAD Study, designed to be the definitive test of the long-term health benefits of voluntary weight loss in diabetic adults.

Dr. Christos Mantzoros, Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA
Christos Mantzoros is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Professor in Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health. He serves as the Clinical Research Overseer of the Division of Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and the Joslin Diabetes Center and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Scholars in Clinical Science Program, a postgraduate clinical investigators training program at Harvard Medical School. His research focuses on the physiology, pathophysiology and potential therapeutic significance of adipokines, including leptin and adiponectin. Towards this goal his lab utilizes a range of basic, translational and clinical research tools.
