Long-standing Achievement

Dr Daniel Porte Jr, MD, University of California School of Medicine, San Diego, USA

Dr Porte is Professor of Medicine at the University of California School of Medicine, San Diego, USA. He also holds the positions of Staff Physician at the Veterans Affairs San Diego Healthcare System, San Diego, USA and Professor Emeritus of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, USA. Dr Porte's research interests include the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes and the role of the beta-cell in the development of hyperglycemia and regulation of body weight.

 

 

Professor Sir George Alberti, FRCP, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK

Professor Alberti is Professor of Medicine at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and Honorary Consultant in Medicine, Newcastle Health Authority/RVI and Associated Hospitals Trust. Since 1999, he has also held the post of Professor of Metabolic Medicine at Imperial College, London. Professor Alberti co-chaired the WHO Consultation on the Diagnosis and Classification of Diabetes and also served on the ADA Expert Committee on the same subject (Diabetic Medicine 1998). More recently, he contributed considerable new knowledge in the paper 'Global and societal implications of the diabetes epidemic' (Nature 2001). Professor Alberti's main research interests include the epidemiology, etiology and treatment of diabetes.
